Augusta County, VA Reports Dramatic Rise In Fatal Accidents

What Happened:
According to recently released data, police in Augusta County have seen a dramatic rise in the number of fatal accidents in the area so far this year. The Virginia State Police reported a recent fatal crash just last week that left one woman dead. Shockingly, its just one of five deadly accidents in Augusta County in less than three weeks.
In all of 2012 there were 14 deadly crashes in Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro. So far January 2013 alone has seen nearly one third of that number. No one knows what might be behind the increase, but the Virginia State Police want to take this opportunity to remind drivers to stay focused while on the road. Drunk driving as well as distracted driving are incredibly dangerous activities that can lead to irreparable harm to yourself and others.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of those who have died in Augusta County, VA over the last few weeks. Losing a loved one is never easy, though the pain of the loss is likely made worse by the fact that it occurred so suddenly.

Woman Charged After Causing Three-Vehicle Interstate Wreck in Fredericksburg, VA

What Happened:
A young woman from Fredericksburg, VA was charged with reckless driving after causing a three-vehicle accident that shut down I-95 for several hours.
The accident, which happened during the morning rush hour near Massaponax, began when the young woman was driving south on I-95 in the farthest left lane. Virginia State Police say that she then lost control of her Honda Civic.
The woman’s Honda swerved to the right and collided with a Ford Explorer in the center lane of the interstate before running into a tractor-trailer driving in the far right lane. The Honda then veered left and crashed into a guardrail while the Ford Explorer overturned.
The driver of the Honda and the drivers of the other vehicles were all taken to the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for treatment. Thanks to seatbelts, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
So far, VA troopers say they believe driver inattention is the cause of the terrible accident.
