GM Recalls 34,000 Cars After Discovering That Software Problem Can Lead To Transmission Glitch

By Jim LewisVA Injury Attorney

What Happened:

GM has announced a recall of more than 34,000 Buicks and Cadillacs sold across the United States and Canada. The issue, according to General Motors, is a problem that was discovered with the vehicles’ automatic transmissions.

The recall deals with Buick LaCrosse full size vehicles and the Cadillac SRX crossover SUV. The recall only concerns 2013 model vehicles. The Buicks that are included in the recall were manufactured between April 25, 2012 and March 6, 2013, while the Cadillacs were made between May 29, 2012 and February 18, 2013.

The issue is caused by a software problem in the vehicles’ computers that can cause the transmissions to randomly shift into sport mode. This shit has been found to override any slowing effect from the transmission and can thus increase the risk of an accident by taking control away from the driver.

The Virginia Injury Attorney’s Perspective:

Though it’s always good to see a company like General Motors take the step of warning consumers about possible dangers associated with its products, the new Cadillac and Buick recall raises some serious questions about why the improperly assembled vehicles were sold in the first place. This is especially the case given the other recent news of a major GM recall due to braking trouble in a variety of midsize sedans.

Attorneys with my Virginia (VA) personal injury law firm have helped victims of dangerous and defective products recover damages from companies whose negligence or disregard for consumer safety led to injuries. In one case, my firm represented a man who was injured as a result of a defect in a custom ski boat he had recently purchased. We were able to secure a settlement for the man to help compensate him for not only his medical expenses, but for the pain and suffering he endured as a result of the manufacturer’s negligent design.
